Jewelry Care & Child Safety
Caring for a keepsake
A well-loved piece of children's jewelry should last long enough to be handed down. A few gentle habits will keep sterling silver bright and 14K gold glowing for years.
Sterling silver
- Wipe with a soft, lint-free cloth after each wear to remove skin oils.
- If tarnish appears, polish gently with a silver polishing cloth — it lifts right off. Avoid abrasive cleaners and dips on children's pieces.
- Keep silver away from pool chlorine, salt water, sunscreen, and lotions, which speed tarnishing.
14K gold
- Wash occasionally in lukewarm water with a drop of mild dish soap, brush softly with a baby-soft toothbrush, rinse, and dry completely.
- Put jewelry on after lotions and hairspray, not before.
Storage
Store each piece in its velvet keepsake box, closed, in a cool, dry place — silver tarnishes faster in open air and humidity. Keep pieces separated so chains don't tangle or scratch, and always store jewelry well out of reach of babies and toddlers when it isn't being worn.
Child safety comes first
When can a baby wear jewelry?
Follow the recommended age listed on each product page, and when in doubt, ask your pediatrician. For earrings, wait until the piercing is fully healed before changing to a new pair, and follow your piercing professional's aftercare guidance. Many families choose a christening or first-birthday piece for occasional, supervised wear and keep it boxed between milestones — that's exactly what keepsakes are for.
Supervision guidance
- Jewelry is not a toy. Babies and young children should wear jewelry only under the active supervision of an adult.
- Remove jewelry for sleep and naps — never leave a necklace or bracelet on a sleeping child.
- Remove jewelry for bathing, swimming, and rough play or sport.
- Never let a child chew or mouth jewelry. If a piece is damaged or a stone loosens, retire it from wear immediately and contact us.
Why our clasps are different
Our earrings use threaded screw-back closures that must be rotated to remove — small fingers cannot simply pull them off, which protects against both loss and swallowing hazards. Necklaces and bracelets are proportioned for children, sized so they fit comfortably without dangerous excess length, and finished with secure, smooth-operating clasps.
A quick monthly check
Once a month, look over each worn piece: confirm screw-backs are snug, clasps close cleanly, chains show no kinks, and settings hold stones firmly. Two minutes of attention keeps a keepsake safe for years of memories.
